Belfast City & Greater Belfast has been identified as a key tourism area within the draft Tourism Strategy for Northern Ireland 2010-2020 (TSNI).
Since 2004 tourism development across Northern Ireland has been driven by Tourism NI’s Strategic Framework for Action 2004-2007 and the development of the 5 signature projects. Belfast has been transformed with major investment in the Titanic Signature Project as a well as investment in many other tourism projects, tourism infrastructure and visitor services.
Tourism NI has worked in partnership with Belfast City Council (BCC) to develop a tourism strategy for Belfast city, Belfast Integrated Strategic Tourism Framework (BISTF). This strategy has been fundamental in shaping and delivering BCC’s tourism priorities.
With the transition from signature projects to destination development local authorities have the opportunity to collaborate to develop and promote tourism in their destination. The Belfast City & Greater Belfast destination covers council areas Belfast, Carrickfergus, Castlereagh, Lisburn, Newtownabbey and North Down.
