Here's your chance to collect a little 'trivia'.
Winter Harbour is closer to China and Japan than any other North
American settlement! It was named when two English sailing ships
wintered there in the late 1700s. The current population is dependent
on fishing and tourism.
Among the many attractions in this tiny harbour
community is the seaside boardwalk which was once the only 'road'
and is now maintained for visitors' enjoyment.
From the cedar walkway can be observed a variety
of birds such as eagles, puffins, ducks, oyster catchers, gulls,
herons, mures, murelettes and other sealife
For hikers, it's only a short way through the
woods from Winter Harbour to Botel Park with a view down Foward
Inlet , past Robson and Low Islands to the open pacific. Just
outside the hamlet is Kwaksistah Park, with 12 campsites under
towering trees with boat launch, fire pits, sheltered barbeque
and good fishing opportunities.
