Marshlands
are inundated by salt water relatively frequently. Vegetation
here is highly variable and will depend on the extent of inundation
and the salinity of the site. Extremely common, however, and totally
dominant in many areas will be Lyngby's sedge, often growing with
silverweed.
At lower elevations,
this will be replaced by saltgrass which will, in turn give way
to glasswort and similar very salt tolerant species. In many estuaries,
a distinct zoning with elevation will be apparent; but more frequently,
one species
