Reimagining Events - Reframing Workshop

Reframing events to meet other city strategic objectives.

The second workshop asks when is an event not an event? We discussed how to frame events to meet objectives across arts, culture, health, regeneration, climate and other goals and opportunities to open up different avenues for funding.

During this interactive workshop, we heard from Chris McCreery and Leon Van Geest.

Chris McCreery is the founder and director of the NI Science Festival, one of the largest celebrations of science in Europe, reaching an audience of 80,000 people. This year there is a strong focus on sustainability throughout the festival.

Leon Van Geest developed a long term rooftop regeneration strategy in Rotterdam by using a rooftop festival as a catalyst. The festival is an opportunity to accelerate the use of the city’s rooftops by employing a short-term format to promote medium and long-term change.

The speakers focused on examples and tools they have used to reframe their events to appeal to wider audiences as well as align to different city objectives to help meet more strategic objectives and open the door for a more diversified funding model.
