Belfast walking tour app lets you explore the city at your own pace

Belfast based walking tour company DC Tours has launched a new app which allows you to find out about the city’s history at your own pace – or even from the comfort of your own home.

The first instalment in their brand new series of self-guided audio tours. “West Belfast: Peacewalls, Murals and More” is now available for both IOS and Android phones and tablets by downloading the free ‘DC Tours Belfast’ app and buying the tour for just £9.99. The tour is packed full of historical information, pictures, audio and even video of over 30 locations across the Falls and Shankill districts of West Belfast, and together with a GPS mapping system it allows you to take total control of your experience.

Mark Wylie, owner of DC Tours, said:

“We run scheduled and private walking tours every day in Belfast city centre, but we know some guests may not feel comfortable joining a tour with other people. Our self-guided tours give people the chance to explore the city and learn about our history from an expert guide while maintaining social distancing, and at an unbeatable price for such a comprehensive tour.”

Narrated by Paul Donnelly, a Belfast native and the UK’s Top Tour Guide in 2019, the West Belfast tour promises to be the most comprehensive companion a visitor could want. Users can take the suggested 2.5 hour tour, which visits 16 of the most famous sites related to the Troubles including murals and peacewalls. Or they can delve deeper and spend all day exploring the area, discovering places and stories off the standard tourist trail.

Mark Wylie, owner of DC Tours, said:

“Our self-guided West Belfast tour is an in-depth overview of the history of the Troubles in West Belfast. It perfectly complements ‘A History of Terror’, our guided city centre walking tour.

“You don’t even need to be at the sites to enjoy the tour, as the app allows you to explore through the map and learn about the area from the comfort of your own home too. This makes it the perfect way for visitors to plan their trip.”

The West Belfast trail is just the first of many, according to Mark - a “Best of Belfast” city trail will launch in late September too. This will be a 3 hour tour of all the must-sees in Belfast city centre and will be the company’s first departure from specific Troubles tours.

Mark Wylie, owner of DC Tours, said:

“With our self-guided tours you can start and finish the tour at any time and any location you want. You can explore the city in a private group or by yourself, without the need for a guide or being with other travellers. And you can pause the tour at any point if you want to explore, get a bite to eat or just take a break and enjoy your surroundings.

“The app is a great way to access our expert information at a much lower cost than a custom or private tour. You’ll also have a lasting souvenir of your trip which you can relive at any time. And of course, you can never be late for our self-guided tour - it never sells out and it won’t break the bank!”
