Tourism NI supports Hospitality Takeover school event
Hospitality charity Springboard has partnered with Tourism Northern Ireland and The Savoy Educational Trust to deliver two roadshows showcasing career opportunities within the tourism and hospitality sector.
The first of the events, which are aimed at students in years 10-14, took place at The Culloden Estate and Spa today.
The roadshow was supported by Tourism NI and The Savoy Educational Trust with a further event planned for 2025, also supported by Tourism NI.
During today’s roadshow, students engaged in a series of hands-on activities designed to give them a flavour of what a career in hospitality could look like, including mocktail making, cookery demonstrations and customer service training.
Partners involved in the event included Henderson Foodservice, The Culloden Estate and Spa and George Best Belfast City Airport.
The roadshow took place as Tourism NI launched a new phase of its `Make it Here’ career campaign.
Aimed at young people, career switchers, returners and retirees alike, the campaign aims to encourage more people to consider a career in the tourism and hospitality sector by highlighting the benefits.
Carolyn Boyd, Industry Development Manager at Tourism NI, said: “The tourism and hospitality industry offers a wide range of exciting roles.
“It is also a sector which offers career progression, training opportunities and flexible working.
“Roadshows such as this help us promote the industry to the next generation of tourism and hospitality leaders, through impressive demonstrations and virtual reality activities.”
Caitriona Lennox, Head of Northern Ireland at the Springboard Charity, said: “Our exciting partnership with The Savoy Educational Trust and Tourism NI will hugely benefit the students who participate in the roadshow events, helping them to start making important decisions about their futures and opening their eyes to the broad range of careers available within hospitality, leisure, and tourism.”
