US Belfast UNESCO City Of Music Showcase

Tourism Ireland recently hosted events in Boston & New York City with Northern Ireland partners to promote the City of Belfast’s UNESCO City of Music accreditation.

The events included travel trade and media attendees, with an interactive roundtable networking session that would bring together US trade and Northern Ireland partners, followed by a reception and an evening showcase of Belfast’s culture, food, & music.

The highlight of each event was a special ‘Sound Out Belfast’ music showcase, with five Northern Ireland artists performing for the guests. The events were hosted by Belfast-born actress Tara Lynne O’Neill (Ma Mary from Derry Girls) and curated by Emmy-nominated composer Hannah Peel, who composed and recorded the soundtrack for Game of Thrones: The Last Watch. Guests included over 100 leading music, travel and lifestyle journalists based in Boston and New York, who heard about Belfast’s rich musical heritage and its outstanding contribution to music.

Over the next few years, Belfast - as a holder of the title - will deliver a series of high-profile music events, aiming to build its infrastructure to further support music creators, and will see music woven into public spaces and places to ensure the power and benefits of music can be felt by all who live, work in or visit the city.
